About the Founder of Changes For Life

Theresa Cordova MS, CPT RTS1, MAT

Theresa Cordova is the President and Founder of Changes for Life (CFL), an integrated health and wellness service delivering tailored, client-defined personal training, coaching, and education.


An exercise physiologist, movement educator, personal trainer, and resistance training specialist by education and practice, Theresa has dedicated nearly 20 years to the pursuit of science and client-informed fitness. Since founding CFL in 2006, she has worked with clients at various levels of fitness and abilities, including chronic health conditions, pre/post-surgical strengthening and recovery, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal dysfunctions, balance and aging challenges, and more.


In addition to her time with CFL, 

Theresa serves as Director of Fitness of the Professional Care Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation center in Patchogue, New York. She is a certified performance enhancement coach, special population specialist, resistance training specialist1, Muscle Activation Techniques Specialist and personal trainer.


Theresa serves as chair on the Subject Matter Expert Committee and Scientific Advisory Board at the Academy of Personal Training Education (APTE), where she previously led as Director of Certification. Over the course of her 12 years with the organization - during which she was pivotal to APTE’s growth as one of the United States’ leading health and fitness nationally accredited certification organizations - Theresa served as Managing Director, Curriculum Creator and Teacher, and Operations Manager.


Dedicated to wellness at every level, Theresa dedicated part of her time during the Covid-19 pandemic to creating healthful, quality natural soap and body products through Thr33Hearts. All the organization’s proceeds go to Fit Kids For Life a 501.c.3. Nonprofit research and education organization she started in 2009 dedicated to advancing health and fitness education through advocacy and engagement among children and adolescents.


Theresa is a graduate of Hofstra University, from which she received a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science and Kinesiology, as well as Adelphi University, where he earned an M.S. in Exercise Physiology.

Movement is the basis for good health

Changes For Life (CF) personal training and wellness adopts this perspective and recognizes that movement is a basis for good health and appreciates the increasingly important role that physical activity contributes in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease and health conditions.


However, movement and physical activity alone does not mitigate the risks that exercise can inherently bring. In this belief, is important to have a program that not only provides appropriate physical activity and movement but equally puts importance on the understanding of the human body, its integrated systems and how they interact, its current state of health, its movement mechanics from a normal and pathological perspective, and its ability to tolerate force (exercise) as well as having a sound understanding of all the potentials that exist within it for positive adaptations to occur from the recommendations of appropriate exercise prescriptions.


Changes For Life, takes a unique approach to group fitness and exercise recommendation. We create a client-defined fitness program for the safety and wellness of all its members by starting with the understanding and appreciation of each participating member and their individuality.
